How far the map reaches

An independent music discovery project by AIG2KY. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Grateful Dead.

This is a working artifact for reviewing the interface and an initial researched catalog. It is not yet a complete inventory of every Dead-related musician, band or guest appearance.

History review: October 7, 2026. All 24 existing band entries were compared with their cited sources. Each band profile now includes the review notes and evidence links. Conflicting dates, incomplete rosters and unresolved current status are explicitly identified. This remains a selected catalog, with editorial assessments labeled separately.

Included: Mother McCree’s, the electric transition, central Garcia and Weir projects, Lesh’s quintet, reunion bands, and selected percussion and career connections. Every listed person has an explorable record.

Still to expand: pre-1964 string bands; the full rotating Phil & Friends roster; later New Riders and Kingfish lineups; Wolfpack; solo discographies; JGB after Garcia; Zero, The Dinosaurs, Heart of Gold Band, The Tubes, Missing Man Formation, Rhythm Devils, Billy & the Kids, JRAD, Primus and further collaborator careers.

Membership is sourced separately from the short editorial assessment of significance. Missing evidence for a later career or breakup is explicitly identified. Group dates do not imply that every listed person played for the entire period.

Verified Spotify artist pages use “Open on Spotify.” Unresolved pages use a clearly labeled Spotify search. Names such as Kingfish, Reconstruction and The Other Ones can refer to unrelated artists. 109 of 117 people have locally saved, identified photos from archives, artist pages and Wikimedia sources. Eight are marked “Photo needed”: Dave Parker, Tom Stone, Mike Garbett, Mike Price, Jerry Love, Shirley Faulkner, Dave Garland and Dave McNabb. Each available portrait links to its source in the musician profile. Photo permissions require review before publication.
